It joins the growing family of CBK in other towns including Rotorua, Masterton, Kaiapoi and Dunedin.

With its central downtown Tauranga location, and the expansive outdoor patio spilling onto Red Square, it is an attractive spot for people watching and soaking up the sun. It is regularly humming at lunch, particularly towards the end of the week, and its spacious interior makes it great for a group or family dinner or after work drinks.

Owner-operator Billy Emeny has built a team of friendly attentive staff to take you through their range of craft beers, ciders and lively menu including smoking meats and stone grill.

What's on the menu? Not surprisingly given the restaurant's name, there's a wide range of craft beers to tickle every palate with more than 60 different beers including Good George, Moa and Stoke beers. The craft beer selection also changes to keep up with new offerings.

For non-beer drinkers there are the usual selections of wine, cocktails and non alcohol options.

The menu is divided into breakfast and brunch, main menu, and street food - which is food that could make a smaller meal or share in groups, such as oysters, smoked barbecue chicken wings and bao buns - all perfect if you come to try the beers and get peckish, and the staff can advise on pairings.

The eatery's speciality is the stonegrill which is cuts of meal that are cold smoked, then served on a sizzling 400C stone grill which you can then cook to your liking. There's also steaks, burgers and salads and a creative children's menu which makes dining with the kids easy to find something to please everyone.

I'll have Smoked king salmon on a bed of Asian slaw, bok choy, crunchy shredded vegetables with sticky soy and sesame seeds. The slab of succulent fish was generous and the lightness of the tangy salad offset the richness nicely.

He'll have Good George fish and chips - a generous portion of the nation's favourite with the local catch battered in Good George Pilsner beer batter served with asian slaw, classic fries, lemon wedge, lime aioli and tomato sauce. Fries are another speciality of the restaurant and come regular, curly or cross trax.

Stonegrill at CBK. Photo/John Borren

They'll have

The kids' menu comes with some standard offerings such as fish and chips or a burger, and there is also something different. We tried the chicken lollipops, crumbed drumsticks in a Cola BBQ sauce. The Flinstone grill plate for children is great value for money and kids get to experience the excitement of the stone grill. You choose two of either chicken, beef, lamb or venison and get to cook it on the hot plate - parents need to supervise, given the high heat. A very generous portion, and it also comes with salad and fries. For teens there is plenty on the adult menu to appeal - our pair went for smoked chicken, pesto and bacon fettuccine, and a flat iron chicken burger.

Value for money Generous portions and good value. There are also special deals on the website.

The staff Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Right there when we needed them and patient with our indecisiveness. Great with kids.

The verdict Popular with the office crowd, but also with couples and families, this is a fun dining option sure to be buzzing this summer.

Inside CBK. The story goes that Teressa Bellissimo created chicken wings at the Anchor Bar, which she owned with her husband Frank, when her son Dominic and some of his college friends decided they wanted a late night bite to eat. She wanted a fast and easy dish so she deep-fried some chicken wings, which in 1964 were usually reserved for soup stock. She tossed them in butter and hot sauce. Naturally, they were an instant hit.

The Bellissimos weren’t the first Buffalo restaurateurs to realise the potential of chicken wings. John Young had opened Wings’n Things on Jefferson Avenue in 1963. But his wings were breaded and dressed in a tomato-based sauce.

The Anchor Bar’s chicken wing recipe turned out to be irresistible to customers and competitors. Other restaurants in town started catching on. Duff’s, in Amherst, started selling them in 1969. A few years later, the City of Buffalo declared July 29 Chicken Wing Day and in its proclamation proudly noted that “thousands of pounds of chicken wings are consumed by Buffalonians in restaurants and taverns throughout the city each week.”

Have a finger licking good chicken wing day!

Would you like a bumblebee beer?

Bugs and beer: most of us probably don't see a connection beyond shooing flies away from our pint glasses. I’ve thanked you for pushing me to be my best, for allowing me to do more and be more and experience more than you were allowed to do and be and experience as a kid.

But until I had kids of my own, I didn’t know enough to thank you for the less noticeable “mom” stuff, the stuff I don’t remember or couldn’t understand until I experienced it firsthand. But now I have. So here goes:

Thank you, Mom, for enduring the anxiety and discomfort of pregnancy, and the pain and uncertainty and exhilaration and terror of labor, to bring me into the world.

Thank you for all the nights you got up from your bed to come to mine and soothe me back to sleep.

Thank you for all the times you surrendered yourself to fits of silliness, making funny faces and blowing raspberries on my tummy and dancing around the living room to make me giggle.

Thank you for giving up your free time, surrendering your privacy, and setting aside some of the dreams you had as a woman to make room for all the new dreams you carried as a mother.

Thank you for all the warm baths and bottles, all the practicing you did with me to say “Dada” and “Mama” and “milk.” Thank you for holding onto my chubby fingers and helping me take my first steps, knowing I would eventually be walking away from you.

Thank you, Mom, for my siblings. Thank you for finding within yourself the ability to love all of us equally yet differently. And thank you for instilling in us respect for and allegiance to one another.

Thank you for working so hard to put food on the table for every meal, every day — even when it was met with complaints or our downright refusal to eat it. And thank you for all those times you found yourself on your hands and knees picking up the food that was so carelessly dropped, spilled or thrown.

Thank you for enduring the exhaustion that comes with caring for more than one child in diapers. Thank you for all the juggling and cross-checking that took place just to get us out the door, or into bed. Thank you for dealing with all the extra splashing and water and chaos that come with bathing two children at the same time.

Thank you for bearing the days when the whining and fussing of multiple children seemed enough to send you running for the hills.

Thank you for forcing us to share, but never making us feel like there wasn’t enough of you to go around.

Thank you for teaching us that taking turns is one of the most important and universally necessary skills to have. And thanks for teaching us manners, Mom — for instilling in us respect for every living thing and showing us how to be compassionate.

Thank you for teaching me how to write my name, put on my own shirt, wash my hands... and all the other little skills you taught me when I was too little to thank you for them.

Mostly, thanks for rejoicing in my growing independence and for knowing that it didn’t mean I needed you any less.

Thanks for hanging in there once I figured out how to open, close and lock doors, jump, climb, run, plot, scheme, lie and hide. And thanks for putting up with every single debate over how many more bites of peas I had to eat before getting the cookie.

Thank you for loving me even when I was being annoying. (Especially when I was being annoying.)

Thank you for somehow hanging onto the belief that parenting is a journey and a process, not a test we pass or fail.

Thank you for living through me, for me and beside me, for carrying me when I needed you to (and sometimes when I didn’t, but still whined to be held — again, I’m so sorry for the whining!), and for letting me run ahead more often than you may have wanted me to.

Oh, and thanks for all the hugs and kisses I didn’t ask for but got anyway. They were way better than all the treats and toys I begged for but didn’t get.

Finally, thanks for teaching me the importance of sending thank-you notes. Once again, you were right.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Thanks to Robyn at Holding the Strings.

Happy 1st Birthday Kaiapoi 🎂

On Saturday 13th May, CBK Kaiapoi will be turning ONE!To celebrate, in conjunction with Good George Brewing we would love to share the love by offering all George's, Georgies and Georgina's to come down for a birthday meal on us * All of our Loyalty Club members will receive DOUBLE BIRTHDAY POINTS and the wonderful Hamish Keen say there will even be CAKE!!So come on down to CBK KAIAPOI and help us celebrate!! #cbknz #homeof60beers #happybirthday #cake #goodgeorge*All "George's" must bring ID and

On Saturday 13th May, CBK Kaiapoi will be turning ONE!

To celebrate, in conjunction with Good George Brewing we would love to share the love by offering all George's, Georgies and Georgina's to come down for a birthday meal on us *

All of our Loyalty Club members will receive DOUBLE BIRTHDAY POINTS and the wonderful Hamish Keen say there will even be CAKE!!

So come on down to CBK KAIAPOI and help us celebrate!!

#cbknz #homeof60beers #happybirthday #cake #goodgeorge

*All "George's" must bring ID and ring to book a table!!

Kaiapoi CBK are Roasting!

Roast Dinners are on Every Sunday at CBK KaiapoiHamish and the team are getting their Roast on every Sunday, and boy does it look good! From Roast Beef, Pork or Chicken with all the trimmings!12pm every Sunday Phone 03 3247 9224#sundayroast #cbknz #homeof60beers

Roast Dinners are on Every Sunday at CBK Kaiapoi

Hamish and the team are getting their Roast on every Sunday, and boy does it look good!

From Roast Beef, Pork or Chicken with all the trimmings!

12pm every Sunday Phone 03 3247 9224

#sundayroast #cbknz #homeof60beers

SAUSAGE FEST IS HERE IN ROTORUA!

The team at Good George Brewing are collaborating with Wholly Cow to create the best sausage and beer match! We think it's because they make beer the way beer used to be made: "most of our beers are rounded off through the use of winemaking techniques, such as bottle conditioning where a small amount of active yeast and priming sugar is added to the brew just before bottling (like Champagne). This is why you may find some sediment at the bottom of each bottle. This traditional technique naturally carbonates the beer, significantly enhances shelf life and longevity, creates dynamic and complex flavours that change over time (like a good wine), and gives the beer an elegant, champagne-like mouthfeel." Josh Scott Here on TAP: METHODE PILSNER Style: Pilsner ABV: 5% Moa Methode is a modern interpretation of a classic pilsner, uniquely finished with a champagne yeast and dry hopped with a generous amount of Motueka. This beer displays upfront aromatics, complex spicy characters and a dry finish. TEMPERANCE ALE Style: Hoppy Mid-Ale ABV: 3.3% Moa Temperance Pale Ale is a light, easy drinking, full-flavoured mid-strength New Zealand Pale Ale. Hopped and dry hopped with Motueka and Nelson Sauvin, this beer has a solid 40 IBUs with characteristic tropical fruits dominating the senses - melon, mango and passionfruit are evident along with a citrus bite. Available only on draught at selected craft beer bars in New Zealand.- Come try it at CBK! And so many more in the bottle: Five Hop, Imperial Stout, St Josephs, Southern Alps, Classic IPA and of course this months guest beer, MOA NZ Gold Ale to support all our Olympians.
